Cesar Chavez
Who is him?
Cesar Chavez was a farm worker, Protestant, and defender of the civil rights. That born in Yuma, Arizona, he fought basically for basic rights because the working condition.
His work in the fields
His family were the owners of some fields but they lost everything because of the Great Depression and also of the droughts that they suffer during does times and once they lost they moved to California were they started working as migrant farm workers (Cesar started working at the age of 11 year old) he quit school because he saw that her mother was suffering a lot on the fields, so he leave it at 7 grade. Later he retired from the fields and went to take a course where he practice how to organize the people, at the age of 17 he join the navy because he thought that what he learn in the marine he could apply them as a civilianand trying to help the people. After two year of military service he return to his country where he was trying to fight for the basic rights (better working condition, better paid, etc.) but it seems difficult because the people was to afraid about what their bosses could do to them.
His work in the city
An
employee of CSO heard the Chavez ideas, about how he move and convince the
people near him, so he was hired to work for the CSO and then he quit it and
return to work to the fields there were Chavez with a lot of people behind of
him influenced formed the National Farm Workers
Association (NFWA) that later was called United Farm Workers (UFW) and he
strike against the grapes growers were he demand basic rights but what he
demanded the most was better pay but the field owners didn’t listen them so the
union started separating and started to make a boycott around all United
States, but still they didn’t listen to him, during all his travel he receive a
lot of beats and disturbances or problems because of the police and he was
arrested several times but this don’t stop him because he know that he was
making the right thing so once the police release him he reunite a lot of
people to make a march form Delano to Sacramento with a lot of people and when
they pass farms more people join them, he achieved one of his goals that was the
basic rights from the farm workers.
Why I consider him a person with social intelligence?
I consider Cesar Chavez a person with a lot
of human spirit, social intelligence, tolerances, optimism because during his travel he suffer a lot
for example a lot of people starting losing their faith on their strikes,
police arrestments, etc. But although all this happen he never give up and
fought for what he thinks was right and also he know how to move the people, talk them and motivate them that the reason why I consider him important!
